The Antarctic Study Centre which is presently under construction at Goa is designed to develop into a state of the art national facility for conducting front ranking research in the fields of polar sciences. When fully operational, it will have a unique facility for low temperature research on ice cores retrieved not only from Antarctica, but also from the Himalayas. It will also comprise of an Antarctic museum and a data-base repository on polar sciences. The construction of the Phase I of the building including the administrative and logistic blocks are underway. The planning and design of the Phase II of the Centre which will include the various laboratories have been completed.
