During 1995-96, an order was placed with M/s Electronic Research & Development Centre (Trivandrum ) for fabrication and supply of 100 nos of Integrated Fish Finder-cum-Global Positioning System for distribution to small-scale mechanised fisherfolk.

During 1996-97, ER &DC transferred the Fish Finder Technology to M/s Aerospace Ltd., Bangalore, and M/s Bharat Electronics Ltd. Bangalore. A test unit fabricated by these organisations was tested for environmental aspects using a fishing vessel of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi. By March 1997 these integrated units will be made available to the fisherfolk for helping them in knowing the position of the fishing vessel in the sea and the fish shoal. The feed back to be received from these fisherfolk will be used for commercialising the production of such integrated units in the near future.
